'DREAMSUITE' BY GRAHAM ASHTON

Graham Ashton's new quartet, 'Dreamsuite', is to be premiered on GABE's Music Network tour of Ireland in February. The World Premiere of 'Dreamsuite' will be in Newbridge, Ireland on February 16th, 2005.

Notes from the composer:
"I wrote 'Dreamsuite' during a lazy, hazy hot summer in New York between June 29th and July 3rd, 2004. The work was inspired by a bizarre occurrence on the night of June 28th, whereupon I experienced an hilariously surreal, almost 'Dali-esque' dream about a group of composers gathered in the Press Room of the White House in Washington DC. The following morning, I wrote some music based on the unusual, if not eccentric, content of the previous night's dream. The situation became more unusual when the following night, I again vividly dreamt - this time, about a 'hip' group of mice. Again, the morning after, I composed. And so did the dreams continue each night: a stubborn ass, fiery colors and finally, wizards! After each dream followed new music until the night of June 3rd, when the dreams disappeared as unexpectedly as they had arrived.

The titles of the movements of 'Dreamsuite' are paraphrased. For interest, and to provide an amusing reminder of just how bizarre can be the dream world of humankind, the full titles for each movement are as follows:

1. Igor's Moment (......and so Igor and Gustav told George what to do whilst Maurice and Eugene looked on)

2. Mice, so Cool (......and so the mice, in sunglasses, waited patiently by the clock and ate their lunch)

3. Pedro Stands Fast (Unusually, when the rain had gone, the donkey was in the driveway)

4. Lightbrightening (Blinding colors, ascending: some were incredibly vivid, whilst others weren't very interesting at all)

5. Wizardry (......the Temple was in such chaos, but then the Grand Wizard arrived, so everyone hurried around looking for their aprons!)
