TAMAMI TONO WRITES FOR GABE
"Wind, Moon, Rain, Sun" will be scored for a brass trio of trumpet, horn and trombone with three traditional Japanese instruments: the Koto, Shakuhachi flute and the Sho.
ABOUT THE COMPOSER Ms. Tono has received prizes for the top graduate at Kunitachi College of music (Composition B.A.), and Keio University (Media and Governance M.A.). She has been awarded the Japanese Traditional Culture Encouragement Prize and the Special Award of Performing Arts Creation by the Agency of Cultural Affairs in Japan.
Ms. Tono is the resident composer at the Centre de Creation Musicale Iannis Xenakis and The Silk Road Project produced by Yo-Yo-MA. She has also been performing Gagaku (the court music of Japan) at National theatre of Japan since 1990.
Ms. Tono participated in Tanglewood Summer Festival, Linclon Center Festival EU Japan Fest, Wien Modern and Ultima festival. She won First Prize for National Theatre Composition Concours in Japan, and Second Prize in the Sougakudoh Japanese Song Concours. Her works have also been accepted in the International Computer Music Conference in 1997, ISCM World Music Days, the International Tuba Euphonium Conference in 1990, and the opening of Tokyo International Forum in 1997.
