Donna Balson - Soprano
Born and educated in Australia, Donna Balson began her performing career with Opera Australia, in the title role of the Australian contemporary opera The Little Mermaid by Anne Boyd. Subsequent engagements have included further appearances with Opera Australia, Opera Queensland and Canterbury Opera in New Zealand, as well as with European companies such as Oper Frankfurt, Frankfurter Kammeroper, Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart. She traveled to Sri Lanka to appear with Opera Lanka as Violetta in La Traviata. Other featured roles include Marguerite in Boito’s Mefistofele, Leonora in La Forza del Destino, and Tosca.
Ms. Balson made her European concert début with the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra in Amsterdam. She has sung with the Prague Symphony, the Hessischer Rundfunk and the Residentie Orchest Den Haag, among others, in repertoire ranging from Bach through Verdi to Nono. She made her New York concert début with the National Chorale at Lincoln Center as soloist in Bach’s B Minor Mass. Further appearances have been with the Jacksonville, Tucson and Bridgeport Symphony Orchestras, with the Symphony of the Americas and the American Chamber Ensemble, as well as with the China National Symphony and Sydney Symphony. In 2009, she made her Carnegie Hall début as soloist in the Mozart Requiem.
Donna Balson appears on the recording of Schoenberg’s Die Glückliche Hand with the Hessischer Rundfunk Orchestra. She can also be heard on the EMI Australia children’s CDs “Have you any wool?” and “Three Bags Full”.

Graham Ashton - Trumpet
Graham Ashton was born in London and trained at the Royal Academy of Music and is currently Professor of Trumpet, and Chair of Brass at Purchase College, State University of New York. As a soloist, he has appeared with orchestras around the world including the BBC Symphony with Sir Andrew Davies and London Philharmonic with Sir George Solti, aswell as English Chamber Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, National Symphony in Johannesburg, New York Virtuosi and Orchestra of Our Time. During the past twenty-five years, Mr. Ashton has also given over 200 masterclasses and recitals in 21 countries. He has made eight acclaimed solo recordings for Virgin Classics, Nimbus, IMP Classics, Koch and Claves with the English Chamber, English Symphony and Irish Chamber Orchestras, and recorded Bach’s 2nd Brandenburg Concerto twice for EMI with London Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Ensemble.
